Memorial Room

The statement that our air defence tower now acts as a memorial of much darker times is surely justified.

However one can not ignore the requirements of a fully functioning zoo that has worked successfully for more than 50 years.

The Historical preservation agency had already taken note of this and lifted its protection laws in 2003 and concentrated its efforts more towards the other 5 towers in Vienna for which a use has only come about recently.

In any case we have many signs and notices, in original text as well as modern illustrations, reminding younger visitors that this tower was erected originally not as a zoo but rather …..

On the 10th floor -after removing tones of pigeon droppings – we found a room that would be ideally suited to be kept in an original condition in order to remind of the towers original form and function.

Our architects know that even during a possible renovation of the top floors this room must be kept in an original condition as mentioned.
