Mag. Heribert Rath Jul, 7, 1924 – Apr, 16, 2007

It never rains but it pours…unfortunately we lost our vice president and honorary member Mag. Heribert Rath.

Heri, as his friends used to call him, was born on July, 10, 1924, in Imbach, near Krems. Already in his early years his talent became apparent- in his drawings, poems, paintings. His love was dedicated first and foremost to his family and the art of sculpture- there is hardly any district in Vienna without a trace of his sculpture art: war monuments, sculptures, reliefs, ways of the cross, pottery, the Schrammelbrunnen at the Elterleinplatz in Vienna. In addition, he taught sculpture for seven years at Vienna’s art school.

Due to his love for adventure, he undertook various expeditions to Africa, Asia and Central America. Originally, these trips were fishing expeditions for the HdM. He was one of the core members of the second phase of the HdM’s construction. In 1984, he received the Golden Medal of Honor for all his merits from the city of Vienna. At the age of 63, he immigrated together with his wife to Queensland, Australia, where he built his house. He spent 17 beautiful years on his favorite continent. After his return, Heri continued to attend many meetings in spite of his health issues, as an active and very critical member.

We are very grateful for his outstanding services to the HdM.
