Floor 10

On the 10th floor, you will find fishes of the Caribbean and get a glimpse into the history of the flak tower. 

The eye-catcher on level 10 is our hammerhead shark tank, created in 2013: a large, curved plastic pane measuring over 3 x 3 metres, four portholes in the corridor area – allowing you to look into the water. To allow a wider variety of perspectives, one pane installed inside the lift shaft allows sensational views into the new aquarium. Since the lift runs through the pool vertically, you can experience the 4-metre water level (system volume 150,000 litres) and the animal world particularly well. 

Let’s continue to our cinema, which invites you to linger and offers you the opportunity to watch two films produced about the zoo – for even more insights into the development of the zoo and exciting "behind the scenes" information. 

At the back of the cinema is our permanent exhibition "Erinnern im Inneren" (Remembering Inside), which is dedicated to the history of our flak tower. Select exhibits from the Second World War are shown, which illustrate the the original use of the flak tower. These genuine air surveillance and air defense technology artefacts (such as an "all-wave receiver", an air-raid siren, a distance measuring device, air-raid helmets and shooting reports). The exhibition is accessible daily as part of guided tours. Learn more about the construction and use of the flak towers during the war, their function as shelters for the civilian population and view the exhibits and finds. 

You can also go up from the 9th floor to the rooms on the 10th floor through the staircase, which has largely been preserved in its original condition. There are additional display panels on the walls, which show the construction phases of the Esterhazypark flak tower.

Also on level 10 is our light-flooded event location, the Lighthouse10! The event location at the Haus des Meeres is used for business and private events, is very versatile, elegantly furnished, offers an excellent view of Vienna's city centre and is easily accessible thanks to its central location. Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, the room transforms into a cultural hot spot for the in-house program series “Kulturwelle”! Since October 2019, as part of the "Kulturwelle", it has become possible for people to get to know the Haus des Meeres from a completely new angle. The Lighthouse10 offers an atmospherically unique concert venue. It not only invites you to enjoy culture, but also to enjoy the view of the city from  high above and simply let your mind wander...
